Spring Practice Update (April 30, 2010)

Bear Fans,

Thank you for your recent comments and notes.  The Green and Orange board is in full swing and we are excited at the many volunteers that are involved in our football program.

Spring pratice officially kicks-off on May 10!  The excitement of this time is quickly followed by the sadness of watching our seniors graduate.  You can read more about where some of the Bears will be attending in the fall in my blog.

I hope to see many of you in at our first game of the season, against the Ramona Rams in the newly refurbished stadium. This will be a big night for both of our teams, and something true Poly/Ramona fans won't want to miss.

I appreciate each and every player, parent, and fan that makes this organization what it is,

Go Bears!

Pre-Season Update (September 2009)

Bear Fans,

The Bears took their first step of the 2009 season with a week one victory over the Rams of Ramona, 41-12.  There were many highlights in our victory over the Rams, led by the play of our offensive and defensive lines.  We were able to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball all night, until we finally physically beat Ramona.  We rushed for over 340 yards and took away any running game the Rams might have had.

This was a good beginning to the season for us, but we can't dwell on this win because our schedule will get progressively tougher in our pre-league games in the ultra competitive BIG VIII league.  This week, we are preparing for the Patriot Warriors.  We have a three-game winning streak against the Warriors, but they're a team on the rise.  Last season, they played for a league title and made the playoffs.  The Warriors are a very athletic team with a lot of speed, similar to the teams we will face in league.  We'll have to consistently execute on offense and play disciplined defense in order to continue our success.

The "Player of the Game" Bears against Ramona were:

  • Ryan Salgado (#15) Offense
  • Daniel Rotar (#1)  Defense
  • Troy Cannon  (#16) Special Teams

Each "Player of the Game" receives a "Player of the Game" t-shirt, but they do not get to keep that shirt.  We have a tradition at Poly were the "Player of the Game" gets to hold on to his t-shirt for ten minutes. After thinking about it, they must then   give that shirt to the teammate that they feel had the greatest impact on them receiving that honor.

Ryan gave his shirt to Derrick Austin (#54) who led the offensive line in pancakes.  Daniel gave his shirt to Greg Garcia (#43) for his leadership and excitement on special teams. Troy gave his shirt to Jaron Farmer (#2), who also rushed for over 100 yards.

Congratulations to all the Bears on their victory and I look forward to seeing a big crowd at Rubidoux High School this Friday when we face Patriot High School.

Bring It On!!!

Summer 2009 Update

Welcome to the 2009 Poly Bears Football season.

We are halfway through our summer football schedule and the players are working extremely hard.  We have been competing in passing leagues against teams from all over Southern California.  The Bears recently competed in the Bonita Passing league tournament, going 4-1 in the first day of competition, beating Pomona, Bishop Amat, Los Altos, and Jurupa Valley.  We’ve been very competitive in every game and are building the foundation for a successful 2009 season.

In the coming weeks we will have games against Patriot, Ramona, Vista Del Lago, and Corona.  Our offensive lineman did very well against Corona in a lineman competition.  On July 18th we held our 4th annual Freshman Passing Tournament/Lineman Competition.  The tournament was the bigger ever and it, along with the varsity car wash were a great success.  I encourage you to come out and support the Bears this season, I think you’ll have a great time cheering in the stands for all three levels of Bear Football.

We have a new freshman coaching staff and we currently have sixty freshmen on the team.  The future looks bright with this freshman class.  We are also in the middle of our fundraising season and are looking forward to our next major event, the Texas Hold ‘Em in September. We are also in full-swing in selling ads for the program.  It’s a great way to advertise your business.  This year, for the first time, we are also putting the ads on our new Facebook fan page.Your support in these events is vital and much appreciated.

Summer is all about preparation, learning, and fine tuning the offensive and defensive systems and working in the weight room to be successful in the upcoming season.  It looks like it’s going to be yet another great season for Poly Football!  I look forward to seeing you in the stands, and hearing you on the field!
